Sometimes if the tooth requires a large filling or if the patient grinds their teeth , you may need something that is a bit more hard wearing. If this is the case, then your dentist may suggest the option of a porcelain inlay or onlay.
The old filling is removed and an impression is taken of the tooth. The tooth is then temporarily filled with a resin filling, while your impressions are sent to the dental technician for your porcelain tooth to be crafted. On a return appointment, your inlay is bonded firmly into place on your tooth.
These restorations are great alternatives to conventional crowns. They are used when teeth are broken down or the filling is getting too large.
